Tim-Lahaye and In the Last Days Ministries
Tim LaHaye is well known for his in the last days ministries. LaHaye is the founder of the Pre-Trib Research Center. In 2003, he coedited "Endtimes Controversy, with Thomas Ice, a book that attempted to call attention to Preterism in an effort to stop the rising tide of growth to this movement.
LaHaye begins the introduction by stating that anyone would teach that the Lord Jesus Christ has already come. Paul's readers were not as alarmed as LaHaye wants everyone to think. True, the Thessalonicans were in error to believe that Christ had already come in A.D. 52. However, that in no way contradicts the fact that Christ would come before that first century generation passed away.
One may not go to the store today, but that does not mean that the same individual will not go tomorrow, the next day or the next year. It only means that they didn't go today. Likewise, Paul admonishes the church at Thessalonica that Christ had not yet come at the specific time in which they believed,(2 Thessalonians 2:2. Never did he once tell them not to expect Christ in their life time. In fact, Paul gave the Thessalonicans signs by which they could know when it was immediately imminent. He told them they were not in darkness, and that the day would not overtake them as a thief, (1 Thessalonians 5:4). He also assured them that some of them would live (remain) to experience it, (4:15).
In The Last Days Ministries of LaHaye,
his literal interpretation of the following passages create what he believer are insurmountable exegetical difficulties. For him, Micah 4:3, is evidence of a non-fulfilled millennium. See our e-book The Millennium. Acts 1:11 is also problematical in that the authors expect a literal appearance of Jesus' body. We respond to this in our ebook, The Second Coming. Literalizing Matthew 24:27-30 also creates interpretative challenges. Revelation 1:7 and 19:11-16, in a book that is highly symbolical as the first verse states, (See Revelation 1:1), is found by LaHaye to be literal. These and other questions by the authors are answered in a separate ebook entitled 17 Questions of LaHaye Answered.
